Blog Profile : A Sizable Apple
If you’re interested in all things “healthy” then I’d recommend you take a look at “A Sizable Apple“. Dana used to be a competitive swimmer and comes from quite an active family so she has plenty of ideas to share and expertise to draw on.
Here is how Dana describes her blog:
Being healthy means making smart choices and being confident with those choices. A Sizable Apple discusses well-being in smaller, more manageable steps for the average woman- with budget limitations and a busy schedule, looking to better her lifestyle.
In all honesty, it looks like a blog I need to read a little more of.
I love the way she has considered time and budget restraints as well as showing an understanding of the fact that not everyone may be as athletic or as passionate about exercise as she is.
Bringing variety by making use of guest posters and linking to a variety of other articles means that this blog provides quite a good range of information for the every day person.
The blog is by no means limited to exercising but provides lots of interesting articles on health and nutrition through food. Being a big fan of garlic myself (particularly for the health benefits) I was interested in Dana’s post on the Health Benefits of Garlic.
A couple of things I would look at if this were my blog would be the header bar and the location of the subscribe feature.
The header bar takes up quite a lot of room and forces most of the content down below the fold (what you see without needing to scroll). I also wasn’t sure about the blank red area to the right hand side of the header.
However, having experienced some of the frustrations of dealing with headers in blogger, I can understand that it might be easier said than done to do much with the header. One thing I was glad to find was that the header was linked to the home page, making navigation around the site reasonably simple.
With the subscribe feature, it was great to see that Dana was offering an email subscription as these are really handy for those who are unfamiliar with using feedreaders (like me not that long ago
). I am, however, a big fan of subscription details being as high on a page as possible so that a visitor doesn’t have to go searching in order to find them.
I also noticed that Dana is using Blogrush as a way of publicising her blog. There is nothing wrong with Blogrush, providing you have room on your sidebar for the widget. However, I have found entrecard, which is a little bit newer than Blogrush, to be more useful in gaining traffic than Blogrush ever was. Again, just my personal opinion. You can read what I have to say about my experiences with entrecard in my Entrecard Update.
I am hoping to complete one blog profile a week. If you would like your blog featured here, please contact me using the Contact page in the header bar.
