The Ultimate Blog Contest
Is being held right now by The University Kid. And it’s one MASSIVE contest with a prize list to make just about any blogger drool!
Given it fits with my own personal criteria for a blogging contest by:
1. Being easy to enter
Anyone can gain an entry simply by leaving a comment. Extra entries can then be gained by other methods. I think this is an EXCELLENT way to go with a blog contest rather than requiring everyone to jump through hoops in order to gain even a single entry.
2. Having prizes that are suitable for people no matter where their location
Using paypal for cash prizes as well as offering a variety of internet prizes including reviews, stumbles and entrecard credits. All great ideas for contest prizes.
As many of you know, I’m not a big fan of contests labelled “must have US mailing address to enter”.
And it WAY surpasses my criteria in it’s list of prizes!!!!
Here’s the list of prizes

See what I mean about a MASSIVE contest? This blogger has obviously been very creative in enticing a load of other bloggers to donate prizes. I have to admit that I don’t mind the opportunity to win a prize but how wonderful is this contest that gives MANY opportunities to win something.
Which Prize Would I Most Like to Win?
Oh my, that’s such a TOUGH question to answer. Do I REALLY have to pick just one??? In all honesty, ANY of those prizes would be a great boost to my blogs (I hope I get to pick which blog out of Lightening’s Blogworld and Lightening Online the prize goes to because it would vary depending on the prize).
I would LOVE a custom design advertisement done for Lightening’s Blogworld. While the card I have now is so much more than I could do myself, I do like the idea of an alternative option and perhaps coming up with something that will REALLY stand out now that entrecard is getting bigger.
I would also LOVE a premium wordpress theme for this blog BUT I’m not sure how the people who set this blog up for me might react to that. I’m not quite off my “training wheels” when it comes to all that technical stuff. Which means I tend to be rather reliant on the kindness of others to get things up and running.
Any of the BLOG PROMOTION prizes would indeed by wonderful - advertising, reviews, stumbles and the like.
And who wouldn’t like $100???? I could put it toward my pink handbag.
Okay, okay. If I HAVE to choose just 1 single prize that is my favourite, I think I’d choose a 1 hour consultation with The University Kid with the hope that perhaps they’d let me use that hour to get some help making this blog look a little less “boring”.
Otherwise it would be a great opportunity to pick this persons brain as they’ve done quite an amazing job managing to get so many sponsors for their own contest!!!!!
And since this contest is really all about blog promotion, here’s a bit about the blog being promoted:
The University Kid is a very clear and well set out blog. I like the way it’s reasonably easy to navigate and the blog writer has made good use of clear tabs for finding different sections. I actually prefer this approach to that of a more “magazine style” approach because the latest blog posts are easy to find and read and I’m not finding my eyes flicking all over the page to find what I’m looking for.
So that nobody misses out on the current contest, there is a great graphic advertising the contest between the header tabs and the main content of the blog. I’m not usually a fan of flashing graphics but given this one has a nice slow change to it (rather than a rapid flashing) and it is advertising something that is in the READERS best interest (as opposed to an advertisers or the blog owners interest) I think it is quite appropriate.
I almost forgot to come back and finish this post because I got sidetracked reading the latest post reviewing some free wordpress themes. I’m not convinced I totally like the one I’m currently using here on Lightening’s Blogworld so I’ve been keeping my eyes open for something different.
The one thing I’d love to see changed about this blog is that the header be made clickable. That’s just so that non-tech noobs like me can find the homepage very easily. I know, there is a quite obvious “home” tab so this wouldn’t really be necessary. But I’m just saying…. I have this automatic tendency to click on a header when I want to be taken to the home page so non-clickable headers confuse me.
Anyway, it’s a blog worth taking a look at. I’m going to add it to my bloglines feed and give it a go.
Head over and check out The University Kid. And don’t forget to enter the Ultimate Blog Contest while you’re there.
