Blogging and Website Tips Without the Jargon

ben-barden-screenshot.bmp

This is a GREAT website to read if you’re interested in learning a little more about blogging but find some of the “blogs on blogging” a little bit technical and hard to understand. Ben has made a clear stance that he intends to share ideas and information in a manner which is easy for the regular person to understand. So far he has managed to achieve this brilliantly.

You may have already noticed some of Ben’s posts making it to my weekly round-up post. That’s simply because I really LIKE what he has to say and have found it extremely helpful so far. In fact, when I first open my bloglines feedreader, I tend to find myself gravitating toward reading his posts before many others. To me this is a sign that I’m finding his content relevant and enjoyable post after post.

The post you can see in the screen shot would have to be the best Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) post I have read so far. While I understand that SEO is an important part of blogging if you want to feature highly in the search engines, I’ve tended to avoid thinking about it due to it’s tendency to be a little on the technical side for me. In his post, Ben selects a few things that ALL bloggers would be able to implement to help with their results in search engines.

As someone who’s opinion I highly respect, I am really enjoying the fact that Ben has chosen to include a weekly round-up as part of his posting schedule. There are MANY great blog posts out there but it is impossible to cover them all.  The posts he has highlighted so far have provided some very interesting reading.

The only downfall I find on Ben’s blog is that I tend to automatically head straight to the header bar to click to the home page and his header bar isn’t linked this way. It’s not that I can’t find my way around, it’s just that clickable header bars seem to be fairly common these days so I head for them first before considering where to click if I want to return to the main page.

Please head over and check out Ben Barden: Blogging and Website Tips Without the Jargon. There you will find a down to earth blogger who shows a genuine interest in those who read and comment on his blog.

If there’s something you would like to know more about or a post you’d like to discuss in more detail, Ben also has a discussion section on his website. This includes an opportunity for readers to suggest a blog entry or tutorial they would like Ben to write. It’s in it’s early stages yet but I think once people get used to the idea it could become a very useful part of his blogging community, encouraging members to interact with both him and one another.

Now that’s what I call link love! Thanks so much for this, Lightening. :D

I did add a linked header that will appear if you turn the CSS off, but couldn’t figure out how to link the header image. It’s a background image so that makes things a bit more difficult. I’ll ask Lauren about it, as she’s the one who’s good with CSS. Our skills go well together. :)

I’m really hoping to get more comments in the Blog Discussions section, so thank you for linking to it. Aside from the jargon-free tips, I’m always looking at new things such as the discussions.

Thanks again!!

Glad you liked it Ben. I wasn’t sure whether I should prewarn you or not. I don’t usually so just went ahead. Only called things how I see them.

I’m not very technical at all I’m afraid but I do understand that some things just aren’t possible (or at least aren’t easy) to achieve. :)

Have another look, it should be clickable now ;)

I’m with you Lightening, Ben’s blog is great and really easy to read. It’s one of the first places I check if I come across a new blog gadget or trend, because chances are Ben’s already covered it :)

Hey Ben, that’s great. Thanks. :)

Thanks, Amy! :D
