April Fools Abound In Lightening’s Blogworld This Week
April Fools Day
It’s been an interesting week this week around the Blogosphere. Many bloggers have used April Fools Day as an opportunity to have a bit of fun on their blogs. International time variances have added to the confusion that has spread far and wide. And all of the fun has created quite a “buzz” around the place.
Problogger was able to make use of our early time line to fool a number of his readers.
On the flip side, those of us in Australia were ready to breathe a sigh of relief that April Fools Day was finished while our overseas counterparts were just cranking into it.
I have to ask the question though, who really is the April Fool here? I was stunned by the amount of “pranks” I came across that put people’s own blogs at risk. Anything that might cause a reader to unsubscribe from your blog or lessen their trust of the safety of your blog and blog promotion ideas is a BAD idea. The blogworld is a highly competitive one when it comes to attracting readers and you need to be careful NOT to give your readers a reason to unsubscribe. If you’re going to attempt an April Fool prank on your readers, please consider carefully the ramifications of those who fall for your prank. If it will cause them to unsubscribe - DON’T do it! Unless of course you have so many readers you really don’t care to lose a few. I’m left wondering if it’s the Foolee or the Fooler that’s the true Fool in some of these cases.
Wordpress 2.5
In other big news this week, Wordpress released their 2.5 update. It seems opinions are quite divided with some passionately hating it and others singing it’s praises. Me, I don’t have an opinion. It’s all beyond me. But when I get my head around it (assuming I do) I’ll be sure to let you know what I think.
Anyone have an opinion on this controversial update?
A Few Posts You Might Enjoy Reading
Zen Habits has a great article on fighting feature creep in our lives. As a compulsive blogger, I really need to start thinking about putting some limits on how much time I’m prepared to invest in blogging, reading blogs, entrecarding, foruming and generally how much time I spend online.
From The Old has 10 Reasons to Get Blogging.
Trey Morgan convinced his lovely wife Lea to guest post on his blog. Her posts 10 Ways to Stay in Love for 20 Years Part 1 and Part 2 are well worth the read.
A Bit Closer to Home
I completed the third and final post in my series about Shearing on our Farm this week on Lightening Online. My husband and I also celebrated our 12th Wedding Anniversary. And of course the Generic Lovefest generated quite a bit of discussion.
Coming up on Lightening Online will be the beginning of a new series centred around discussion of The Complete Tightwad Gazette.
In Lightening’s Garden this week we’ve seen the first lot of this seasons seedlings poke their head out of the ground, some more planting has been planned and I’ve been tussling with the roots of my sweetcorn plants.
Here on Lightening’s Blogworld, you may have noticed the beginning of my Entrecard Blog Reviews. These are requested reviews and I am being paid entrecredits to do them. Does this mean they are sponsored posts? Not in my opinion. The credits amount to approximately $2.00 which I see as more of a “tip” than a payment. Doing it this way (through the Entrecard shop) allows me to promote the reviews and sorts out those who are seriously interested. I just wanted to mention this in the interest of full disclosure. Basically “Blog Profiles” are blogs I’ve chosen to highlight and “Entrecard Blog Reviews” are those that have been requested by the blog owner. If you find this too confusing or you have an issue with me doing this, please feel free to contact me via my contact page in the header tabs.
Oh, and to finish off this week, I won a “pay it forward” contest on Our Great Southern Land. Thanks Jayne. I’ve decided to pay it forward I am going to take time to stumble a post on each of the blogs that ends this month in my Top Commentators widget. Whether those people then wish to carry on the Pay it Forward tradition I will leave entirely up to them.
And that wraps up another week in Lightening’s Blogworld. Thanks for taking the time to read.

I don’t think you did Frogdancer but thank you. I’m glad I could in some small way help restore your faith in the male population. Sadly the good ones seem to few and far between. But I’m sure you’re raising 4 wonderful men so you can’t say you’re not doing your bit for the women of the future.
Hopefully my two will turn out to be gems like their father.
I really dont like April fools day. Locally on our news here in South Africa they announced that they wont be having tv from 6-8pm to save electricity. I was a bit upset only to realize later it was the 1st of April.

I don’t know if I commented on your 12th anniversary post, but I haven’t been able to forget what you wrote. “Marrying you was the best decision I ever made.”
As a long-term single, I find that sentence beautiful. Sometimes I need to be reminded that not all men are dropkicks!
