Entrecard Blog Review: Theme Lab
I have discovered a down side to shifting to wordpress self-hosted. I’ve noticed a growing addiction to wordpress themes. I want to look at every. single. one. Which only adds to my blogging addiction. Too many themes I’d like to use may only lead to starting up more blogs!!!!
I LOVE that this site includes a whole host of Wordpress Tutorials as well as the many themes on offer. I need to take some time to read through more of these.
I spent some time browsing the various themes available in an attempt to choose my favourite. I quite like this one called Blue World. Apart from the graphic showing the wrong part of the world for where I am, it could fit quite nicely with “Lightening’s Blogworld”.
Other than having a narrow content section, I quite liked the look of this symisun theme also. It’s a little bit different from other layouts I’ve seen and different can be a real bonus in the blogging world.
What I Liked About This Blog
- Great content with useful resources and articles for bloggers.
- The smaller font used in the header title. It has a similar effect to whispering to children when you want them to listen intently. The smaller font surrounded by lots of space drew my attention directly to the title.
- I love the choice of colours, particularly the shade of blue that has been chosen.
- It was easy to navigate and find information as a new visitor to the site.
Things I Would Do Differently If This Were My Blog
- I felt the content was a little too “boxed in” for my liking. This varied a little from page to page and seems to be a problem where the left sidebar headers are too close together. The “search our archives” box is small and so the header for that section is quite close to the next, giving a “heavier” appearance which crowds out the content a little.
- I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a big fan of flashing ads. Although as far as flashing ads go, these weren’t too bad.

I’m addicted to themes too and get twitchy when I haven’t changed themes after a couple of months…
This is my favourite theme of the moment - http://justintadlock.com/archives/2008/02/24/options-wordpress-theme
You couldn’t pay for more options.

Leland - you were quick! I haven’t had time to let you know the review was published.
I’m assuming now I don’t need to. Thanks so much for dropping by and giving your response. My opinions are just that - opinions. But it doesn’t hurt to have a fresh or different set of eyes browse your blog does it?
Cellobella - that’s a great theme. I’ve noticed a lot of the themes now are tending toward quite narrow headers. I assume to maximise the prime real estate “above the fold”.

Hey, I appreciate the honest review. Now that you mention it, I agree with the “boxed” feeling - I think some padding on the paragraphs might help. Thanks again for the feedback.
