Blogger Templates
Finding an alternative template for a blogger blog is not all that hard. There are quite a few options available out there allowing you to copy and paste the entire coding for your template into the HTML page for your blog.
The problem with many of them is that they are designed to work in “classic” blogger mode. Personally, I don’t find the classic blogger mode to be very user friendly.
There are more templates being released in XML now which is great for blogger users. That’s what you want to look out for if you want a template that can be used in the current blogger (as opposed to “classic” blogger format).
Why they can’t just put “suitable for new blogger” and “requires classic blogger mode” for non-technical people like me is beyond me!!!! 
If you’d like to dress up your blogger blog a bit, I would recommend taking a look at these freeskins for blogger. I’ve found these easy to install and there are some really nice choices there.

A word of warning
When you switch blogger templates, you will lose any widgets (including text boxes) that have been added to your sidebar. The easiest time to set up a new template is when the blog is in it’s early stages. If your blog is already established, make sure you save any HTML and text etc from your sidebar so that you can re-add it once the switch has been completed.

I didn’t like the selection Blogger offered in their layouts that’s why I have also searched for other templates.
After downloading the template I tweaked it to fit my needs and I am still doing this as in my opinion every blog needs to be worked on
The classic mode has also been no choice for me. I have used this earlier in another blog. I guess Blogger was set up to be easy to handle and customize and with a classic template all those neat things are not possible anymore.
