Entrecard Blog Review: Xavier Media
Xavier Media is a blog that I am already subscribed to so it’s extremely easy for me to recommend this blog to others. I find the authors style easy to read and they cover a wide range of interesting topics.
For Entrecard users, Xavier Media offers a regular contest to win Entrecredits. Much to my surprise, I was the winner of these just recently. This is a weekly contest and well worth entering. All you need to do is drop your card on their blog.
If you’re interested in adding your own “peel off ads” to the corner of your website, you might find the article on “peel off corner ads” of interest. I also liked their suggestion for sending “good link love” rather than simply linking for the sake of it.
Xavier Media also run an Entrecard Contest Blog.
Things I Like About This Blog
- It’s written in an easy to read language style without too much confusing jargon.
- There is a widget in the sidebar which allows you to chat with the blog owner when they are online. I could see this being a good tool for building community.
- The subscribe and search features are prominent and easy to find.
- The ads that are used are not overbearing or overdone and don’t detract from the site at all (in fact, I think they actually add to it).
Things I Would Do Differently If This Were My Blog
- I’m not a big fan of overpromotion of RSS feeds. While I think it’s great to offer these as an opportunity for readers who wish to use them, I found the large advertising image at the end of each post a little “overdone” and off-putting. I was also concerned that this banner detracted from the list of recommending reading that is listed below.
- I couldn’t find an “About” page or an easy way to contact the blog owner.
- I couldn’t find evidence of the blog author interacting with their commenters on the blog. As there aren’t huge numbers of comments, it would be nice to see some kind of response acknowledging those that have taken the time to comment.
