Entrecard Blog Review: Popular Wealth
Popular Wealth is a refreshing addition to the popular blogging niche “make money online”.
From their front page:
Popular Wealth shares tips, ideas and webmaster approved tricks to help you make money online from home… and a whole lot more. Wealth is more than money. Wealth is smiles, friendships, amazing facts and ideas, imagination and everything in between.
I have to admit that this kind of sentiment helps to restore some of my faith in the “internet marketing” world where the sentiment of “make money at all costs” is often preached. I like this more balanced approach to the concept of wealth.
Interestingly enough, the article “10 Tips To Get More Blog Comments” was one I had already highlighted for my blogworld wrap-up this week. Before I turned the page in my notebook and discovered this blog was next on my “to be reviewed” list.
Not bogged down by blogging ONLY about marketing, making money and blogging related posts, Popular Wealth also contains some interesting and witty posts designed to make you smile and enjoy life. I quite liked this one on civilisation without oil and these funny pictures. Laughter is worth a LOT in my book!!!
Things I Liked About This Blog:
- I liked the use of Avatar-style images to highlight each of the blog posts listed on the home page. If you’re not going to put full posts on the home page, I thought this was a good way to highlight available and recent content.
- The “About” page was quite comprehensive, offering plenty of information about both the blog author and the blog itself (although the use of the term “bio” instead of the tradition “about” may confuse some readers).
- RSS and search information was easy to find.
- A concise number of categories (unlike me who seems to have way too many!).
- Detailed information about the blogs performance is available to anyone who wishes to know but is kept discretely with the bio information of the blog so as not to clog up the front page.
- Ad placement was well-balanced and not overdone.
Things I Would Do Differently If This Were My Blog:
- I didn’t find the “home” button easy to find. It’s actually labelled “popular wealth”. When I navigate around a site I need things to be obvious. If I have to pause in what I’m doing I’m likely to get frustrated and leave.
- I was suprised at how short the home page was. In the past I’ve commented on home pages that were too long (only if they had important information at the bottom of the page that viewers may not scroll down to see) and have had feedback that lots of content on the home page is important for SEO reasons. I’m no SEO expert but I’d have thought a little more content on the front page would be good. Of course, with less content on the page, you will get a quicker load time which is an advantage.
- I’m noticing more and more blogs which are doing away with a header or using a very narrow header in order to maximise the space above the fold. The issue I struggled with on this blog was the balance. I felt the amount of text could be broken up a little more with images. Either making the description of the blog into an image of sorts by enclosing it in a coloured box to distinguish it from other content or by having an image based ad rather than a text based ad on the right hand side (which may well happen some of the time already) might help break up the text a little.

*giggle* Perhaps you could start a blog called unpopular wealth. You’d only need to put up one post. “If you don’t like your wealth, just send it to me. Problem solved”. ![]()
ROFLOL. Who me???? If you had a blog you’d have less time to leave all your wonderful comments on my blogs!!!!! ![]()
