Blogging Moods
Image by Getty Images via DaylifeDo you find you prefer to write for your blog (or blogs) when you are in a particular mood?
Have you noticed that some blogs will lean toward a particular “style” of post as the most common type of post? For example, some bloggers seem to write when they’re in the mood to rant and rave. Some will post as a way of expressing frustration or sadness. Others tend to be focus on humour or write in a more “positive” mood.
Of course, you’ll also get bloggers who’ll write all of the above and then some.
I’ve been thinking about this of late because I’ve been really struggling to write. I think I prefer to write when I’m feeling energetic and good. When life gets busy or stressed, I find writing much harder.
What about you? Do you think you have a “mood style” when it comes to blogging? If so, what mood do you prefer to be in when you write? Do you think this reflects in your style of writing?

Since my posts are subject specific, I do not have to get into any kind of special mood. I however have to get myself to sit down and write. To get that discipline is the toughest part of blogging.
i don’t blog so much according to my mood as i do according to the time of day. blogging is a morning activity! and that’s it! morning is when i do most of my writing, whether it be blogging, songwriting, short stories or whatever. i do tend to use many moods/voices in my blog — though it’s likely that the rants outnumber the raves and meditations.
Life is very busy at the moment and I am finding it difficult to blog to a standard that I would like. Blogging gets left to the end of the day for me and as I stretch further into the pregnancy, I am finding my energy levels pretty low by this time in the day.
I read once somewhere that it is easier to write if you make it a time-sensitive habit, meaning the time of day. So in theory, if you sit down to blog every day for half an hour at 10 a.m., you will have an easier time of it. I’ve tried this with blogging and it works well for me - regardless of my mood or stress-level, I’m ready to write on time, every time (unless I’m sick or something!).
Frogdancer - And in reality that’s what blogging is all about - sharing snippets of our life. But I do think how you view things that happen comes through in the posts as well. Yours nearly always make me laugh. I imagine you tackle a lot of life with humour (and I spelt it “humor” - I’m getting Americanised!!!!).
Nicole - yes, many people don’t equate discipline with blogging do they? They blog if they feel like it and not when they don’t. Although I think that is no longer the case for many bloggers, particularly with the emergence of “problogging”.
Jackie - I think there’s something to be said for blogging at certain times of the day. I’m fresher in the morning although many of my posts tend to be written at night.
Planning Queen - I remember falling asleep by 8.30pm when I was pregnant. So I’m not surprised you’re finding it difficult.
Christy - That makes a lot of sense. A consistent environment would probably help too. I remember when I was studying that as soon as I sat down at my desk, I fell into “study” mode. It didn’t matter how much I didn’t want to study, all I had to do was sit in that space and my brain switched in to study mode. Wonder if I should employ this kind of conditioning for my writing?
I write when I feel generous! Information is money I feel.. So if you are generous you tend to share information better..
Whenever I seem to blog it’s always after reading about how much another blogger has earnt. Sometimes I read something I find interesting and I just have to blog about it. Most the time I find little motivation to blog as it is not the site which earns me money. The truth is the only way to get it earning is to give it some tender loving care. I’m just put off by the amount of time it takes.

Cool post. Yeah many times i do try to write in a particular mood because I feel it produces content that is emotional and more interesting to read.
I write like 5 different types of post: News, reviews, how-tos, comics(funny), rants.
but even those are broken into keyword post (for seo), buzz blogging, or I write for speed and use formulas like top ten… or list… for article marketing.
My suggestion would be to not blog when you’re tired;) I know from experience that it doesn’t really turn out as well as you would have wanted it to:)

Most of my posts are about the funny little things that happen during the day. They’re the things I prefer to focus on in my ‘real life’ so of course they’re the things I tend to blog about.
