Free Wifi At McDonalds
Image via WikipediaMcDonald’s have started rolling out free wifi in their stores with an expected completion date of March 2009.
This is perfect timing for me as it will make blogging on the road so much easier (and cheaper). I’m sure my children will be happy to take a side trip to McDonald’s in order to post our blog posts while we’re away.
Hubby can drink coffee and read the paper while the kids play and I blog. What a perfect arrangement!!!
With our departure date July 2009, things should be well in place when we leave.
Not to mention the fact that other businesses are likely to follow suit in a bid to compete with McDonald’s and their huge portion of the market.
It will be good to see Australia with more and more free wifi hotspots given how expensive our mobile internet services seem to be.
You can read more about this anouncement at:
I wonder if it’s too much to hope that free wifi in caravan parks catches on before July next year? I know a few already offer it but not many.

Imagine what would happen if each McDonald’s got Wifi? In each McDonald of the world! That would be blissful. Free internet spread across the city. ![]()
I hope McDonald in my country adding free wifi soon :D, that will be great experience (all in one). my wife can watch my kids play and eats, while me blogging.
why does this seem so very strange to me? a friend mentioned in her blog yesterday going to mcdonald’s to get online because her DSL line at home was down, and i couldn’t believe it. so it’s already happening, at least in new mexico.
maybe i am a closet elitist for finding this so odd!
we have free wifi in selected mcdonalds stores here in Philippines. And these stores are open 24 hours.
Finally! I think its about time McDonalds give something else besides fattening fries and high cholesterol burgers.
Nicole - agreed, particularly with so many hand-held internet devices now. People want to be connected 24/7.
Shreyash - well, I can’t comment on what they’ll do in other countries but it would seem highly likely a similar thing will occur eventually.
Busby - then everyone is happy. Except in my case it will be hubby watching the kids (well, reading the paper) and me blogging.
Fortunately our children are old enough they don’t need constant watching.
Jackie - I guess it’s all about getting people in the door. Once there, they’ll spend money. In my mind, it’s no different to the many cafes that already offer this service so that you’ll drink their coffee. It certainly seems to be the line McDonald’s is heading down (chasing the cafe crowd).
ceblogger - sounds like you’re a step ahead of many parts of the world there, or at least your McDonald’s are?
Wookie - lol. Well, they seem to be working hard on their image. Their cake range is more of a danger to my waistline these days (cookies and cream cheesecake…mmmmm….)
Gachinpo - where are you located? It’s rolling out here gradually and sounds like it’s already in other parts of the world so I suspect it’s only a matter of time.
I think its a great (and smart for mcdonalds) move to give people more access to wi-fi.. I looked into it before we did our trip from Darwin to Adelaide, but of course there arent many maccas across the Aussie Outback
Not sure how long it will take to come to more regional parts of australia, but it may be my solution to getting blogging and homework done!! Send the kids to the play area and sit with the laptop…… Great parenting there huh pmsl!! ![]()

You never know! Very soon, every business getting a number of people in their premises for long stretches of time, will have to give this facility if they want to keep them inside, spending money.
