Is Nablopomo Bad For Blogging?
The whole point of Nablopomo (National Blog Posting Month for those not in the “know”) is to encourage bloggers to write more frequently (ie every day).
It is amazing when you begin to blog on a regular basis how much easier blogging seems to become. Where once ideas were few and far between, you can find yourself with an overabundance of ideas.
However, I find myself struggling with an overflowing google reader at the moment. People who once upon a time blogged a couple of posts a week, are spewing forth posts at the rate of knots.
It’s made me realise that if many of my regular reads maintain this pace of posting daily, I am going to have to cull some from my reader. I simply don’t have the time to read that many posts on a daily basis.
Add on to that the posts that I’m coming across that say “I have nothing to say, just taking up your time to tell you I have nothing to say but have to say that because it’s Nablopomo”.
I do wonder if a post like this should disqualify someone from Nablopomo? Am I being unreasonably harsh here? Isn’t the point of blogging to provide something of interest to the reader? Or at least “hopefully” of interest.
I just have to raise the question, if I’m thinking of removing blogs from my reader and getting frustrated by “no idea what to blog” type posts, is Nablopomo actually enhancing my blogging experience or detracting from it?
What Say You?
Do you have an opinion on Nablopomo? Do you think it’s good for blogging or not so good for blogging? Have you ever participated?
P.S. I participated in Nablopomo last year and found it really helpful for getting into the swing of posting on a regular basis. This post is really a bit “tongue in cheek” and looks at Nablopomo from the “other side of the blog” (ie the reader).

I’m doing it this year, after being late to the party last year and the year before. I’m struggling to come up with good stuff daily, while on the other hand it’s been good to keep from procrastinating on posting.
I think this this will be a good topic to discuss on my blog. Thanks for the inspiration!
I reckon that things like nablomo or whatever should not matter and posts should provide at least something.
A post of “I have nothing to say …” in my eyes is reason enough to remove a feed from my reader.
At the same time, if I have nothing to say, I rather not say anything.
Hhhmmm, I don’t think I could take part because when I feel obligated to do something I am probably much more likely to procrastinate and not get around to doing it hahahahaaaaa, I can see the point of it, although I don’t think I’d be one to send out “just writing for the sake of it” type posts, and I really wouldnt want to get 10 of those in my reader LOL
I keep culling all the time. I only blog at my pace and at my convenience and irrespective of what month it is, I do not intend to change.
I think that the novel writing one is a good idea, but I am very dubious about the value of the blogging one. I’m a firm believer in the old adage “when you’ve got nothing interesting to blog, then don’t blog anything at all.” Or something like that.
The difference between the two is that NaNoWriMo is writing purely for yourself, so if what you write is a heap of really awful stuff no one else is forced to read it, unlike the blogging.
I blog everyday- but that’s just what my blog is so November isn’t special. I don’t post something just ot participate on a month of blogging though!
Since I’m quite new in blogging, I wasn’t dare enough to try it. After 2 months of adapting to blogging & also visiting to some other blogs, I must agree quality post top it all. I won’t be a regular to a blog that constantly updating itself, yet have nothing to offer. My opinion.
I think it can be a good thing for those who have time to post every day. I do think however if someone is going to write. I don’t have anything to post but I’m writing this because it’s Nablopomo then it would be better for them to not say anything at all. This is taking away from the idea that they should be writing about something that is either entertaining of informative.

Hi Lightening,
I tried blogging every day for a few months, but eventually I burned out. This wasn’t as part of NaBloPoMo though.
I think that bloggers should look at what they want to get out of something before they join. If they find it works for them, that’s great. If they try it and it doesn’t work out so well, that’s OK.
The problem is when people feel obligated to write posts just to say they’re writing them. A bit like saying “I haven’t blogged in a while, so thought I probably should”. Why? I’ll admit I don’t like to see blogs not updating for long periods of time, but equally, updating too often with posts that don’t interest me will make me unsubscribe.
Quality before quantity.

PS - did you see I have opened some new blogging forums on my site? Check them out if you have time. Would be great to see you there!
